FAQ

How do I become a member?

It is easy! Here are the 3 steps:

1) You sign up with your real name, e-mail, and password, and fill out the member questionnaire. You will be asked to confirm the email address you entered is correct.

2) We’ll verify your professional information using your questionnaire answers. This is done manually and can take 2-3 days during busy periods.

3) Once your account is verified, we’ll send you an e-mail to access World Watch. You’ll be prompted to review your profile information before your profile goes live.

How can I get a shortcut to the app on my phone screen?

After profile verification you will be prompted (at the main page) to add the app shortcut to your home screen when you access the app. Afterwards, on prompt declined three times, you can click on Account (top right of page) to access the option "Add app to home screen". This works on Android smartphones. For mobile Safari add it manually.

How can I edit my profile?

Click on Account (top right of page) where you can review and edit your statement(s), keywords, profile color, and also your email address and password.

How do I delete my profile?

Go to the bottom of your Account page and click on "Delete Account". You will immediately be logged out of your account, and your account will show as "Inactive" across the platform. All your keywords and statements will be removed. In full compliance with GDPR, we will erase immediately your personal data from our records.

In the current beta version of World Watch App, a "ghost" of your inactive profile is still visible in the directory after you delete it, in order to preserve existing chat history other members have with you. However, when time and budget allows, we will update this feature so your deleted profile is fully removed while only preserving chat history.

How do I search for members on World Watch?

Navigate to the column that is most relevant to you, then click on the search bar and begin writing your keyword. Press ‘enter’ or ‘,’ to commit the keyword and add more. The search results will start populating in real-time!

How do I stop being anonymous? I want other members to see my real name.

By default, only your randomly generated 6-digit user number is displayed. To reveal your real name to other members, please click on Account (top right of page) and switch off the option for "Anonymous Profile".

How do I turn on mobile notifications?

This app is currently in beta stage, and we have not built this feature yet.. If you would like to give feedback, please email info@worldwatch.app and also keep an eye out for our user-experience survey! Your feedback and requests are enormously appreciated, and will help us make World Watch the best tool it can be for you.

I can’t remember my password. What do I do?

Please click on "forgot password" and you will receive an e-mail to reset your password.

How do I change the email address on the account?

If you are able to log in, you can change the email address by going to Account (top right of page) and editing your email address. You will be prompted to re-enter your password.

If you are locked out, please email info@worldwatch.app with your name and 6-digit member number, and the reason why you need to change your e-mail.

How do I report an issue, question, feedback or just talk to someone on the World Watch team?

We love to hear from you! For general inquiries, questions, or any matter relating to your membership, please email info@worldwatch.app. We are also reachable on Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin and Twitter.

Who is behind World Watch App?

World Watch App Limited is a not-for-profit limited company by guarantee, headquartered in Scotland, UK. Our Companies House number is SC675420 and we incorporated on 24th September 2020. Although technically exempt, we voluntarily registered with the ICO ahead of our beta launch date on 05 March 2021.

The founder / chief operating officer is Mia Lalanne, and the chief technical officer is Andrew Musichook. We are committed to our mission of being a useful platform for the journalism industry at large, and we refuse to take any actions that will pose a conflict of interest with the purpose of our social enterprise.

To date we have been entirely self-funded except for a development grant we received in October 2020 through Firstport, a wonderful Scottish organisation dedicated to no-strings-attached funding for early stage start-ups.

World Watch is now open to further grant funding to help us reach our next stages of features development. We are also looking to grow our team and our board of directors, so if you are interested or have any questions or comments, please reach out to us at info@worldwatch.app.
